Nike Air Max Penny 1 Tiger Stripes

Nike is doing a reissue of the Penny 1s in a new monochromatic color scheme.

I’m not a huge fan of basketball shoes. The ones I like are the ones that I wanted when I was a kid and couldn’t get. Those would be some of the Air Jordan’s, the Air More Uptempo’s, and the Penny Hardaway’s.

The original Penny Hardaway’s came out when I was probably in elementary School or my first year of middle school. Those were my peak basketball fan days before I got into skateboarding. I was playing basketball, watching basketball, trading basketball cards, I loved it all. The Magic where my favorite team and Shaq was my favorite player which made Penny Hardaway my second favorite player.

When the Penny’s came out I definitely wanted them, but back then most of my shoes were from Payless.

One of my friends got a pair and now that I think about it he also got a brand new snowboard around the same time. I didn’t think about money back then but his family must have had more of it than mine.

That’s enough of my rambling. These reissues with the tiger stripes look rad. A clean colorway with just the right amount of striping. I think they’ll work well with a lot of different outfits.

The $190 price tag is a little high. But Nike going back to the nostalgic money printer time and time again doesn’t surprise anyone.

Buy them to use them?

I think that’s the right call here. Buy them and use them to death or buy them to keep clean.

Buy them as an investment?

These shoes probably aren’t the best place to allocate $190 if your profit-seeking. Overall the Penny shoe line doesn’t have the same pull as the Air Jordan or Nike SB dunk lines. And as far as I can tell these don’t appear to be a limited edition release.

Okay that’s it.

Stay rad. 😎
