Sold: Tomb of Dracula 10

Tomb of Dracula 10

I’m trying something new with the blog and writing about one of my sales.

I recently sold a graded copy of Tomb of Dracula 10. The grading was CGC 4.5

Tomb of Dracula #10 has the first appearance of Blade. In terms of coolness, that puts it on par with Tomb of Dracula #1, or maybe it even surpasses it depending on how much you like Blade. I’m a huge fan of the first Blade movie so this is a very cool comic book for me.

It sold for $580 on eBay. I was hoping to get $625 for it and I probably could have if it wasn’t for a crack inside the slab! If you look just to the left of the bottom of Blade’s jacket, you’ll see a line going from left to right. That’s inside the case, you can’t feel it on the outside.

This is actually the second time it’s sold. The first was for around $615. But when packing it up, I noticed the crack. I contacted the buyer to let them know. It was in the photos but not noted in description and just mailing it out wouldn’t have been right. I offered to cancel the purchase and they took the offer.

I considered sending it in to get reslabbed. But shipping it to CGC, getting it reslabbed, and having it shipped back would easily cost $50 or $60. That would have pushed my goal sale price up to $660 at least, and it would likely sit for awhile at that price. I decided to keep it listed at a lower price for awhile while clearly noting the crack in the description. I could always reslab it later if no one was interested.

I squeaked out the tiniest profit here. My total cost was $473.04. After the eBay fees and shipping costs, my net proceeds were $482.21. That’s a net profit of $9.17 and a return of 1.94%. That’s way less than my goal return on investment, but honestly I’m just happy to have any profit at all after that crack in the slab.

My hold time was just under 130 days.

Lesson learned: I need to look more carefully when I’m buying things to resell. I’m sure this crack was visible when I was bidding for it on Hakes.

I hope the new owner enjoys having this one in their collection! A lot of the recent sales may have been based on speculations of a new Blade movie that might cause a jump in values. It seems like that movie isn’t happening so I expect prices to remain flat for awhile. If they end up dipping, I might try to snag another one.

Thanks for reading.
